Let me elaborate on this by laying out some facts of my experience with cars24 over the last 6 months. This wonderful experience started on the 2nd of November 2025 when I brought a Maruti Suzuki Alto from Cars24. This was a second car purchase for my household and we only needed it for my son to practice driving on Bangalore roads since he had got his learner's license a few weeks back. The Cars24 team reached out promptly to us after we had raised a request through the app. They recommended a few cars based on our preference and finally the car we brought was pushed to us since it was a low run (4.5K kms driven) car and was in pretty good condition. We took a test drive and found the steering to be a bit wobbly which was promised to be rectified through the 1 year warranty scheme once we brought the car. So, we went ahead and purchased the car. I am also sharing a screenshot of the car details which was conveyed to us in the cars24 app. This will help understand the condition of the car as conveyed by the cars24 team through their excellent evaluation framework (which they peddle during advertising). I will also be sharing another screenshot of the same car which was with us for the next 3 months which highlights the scam they are doing through their evaluation. BTW, the 1 year warranty of cars24 is also a dud as they took the car to their workshop and said this was rectified. I rejected the repair work done for the first time and after much pestering they took the car again and returned back with nothing more than a bit of cleaning and polish done to the car. I gave up and took the car to my mechanic who rectified the steering column assembly and motor which cost me an additional 27,000 INR. But, it gave me peace of mind as my son was supposed to drive and I wanted it without any problems lest he is left stranded on the road somewhere. I would like to remind everyone this scam was unearthed because, I brought from and sold the car to cars24 within 3 months of time. Most of the consumers either buy or sell from different marketplaces or dealers hence they fall prey to these unscrupulous tactics which is designed to cheat consumers and make that extra buck to show to investors and shareholders. So what, we are a capitalist for-profit company and we are only answerable to our investors and shareholders. Yes, you are right Mr. Chopra but this culture will not sustain you for long.
Anyways, my son used the car for not more than 1,000 kms (seen the screenshot of the car details while selling) and we decided to sell it back to cars24 since it would be easier as they had all the details of the car and they had a buyback policy. The buyback policy turned out to be a scam also. The crux of the scam lies in the evaluation done by the cars24 evaluator when I was selling back the car to them. This is where most customers are taken for a ride and they grossly undervalue your car and take it at the cheapest possible cost. There are tactics like incessant calling, offer expires today, etc . that the buyback team will use to get the deal closed as soon as possible. While the evaluator who had come to check the car, started a conversation with him during his test drive. I asked him about the number of appointments each evaluator does in a day. He said Bangalore has 8 clusters and each cluster has around 30 evaluators, each of these evaluators do 8 evaluations a day. so thats roughly around 2,000 inspections a day. Each evaluation takes roughly 1 hour if you do it properly, most of the evaluators are in a hurry to finish this. I am pretty sure each of these evaluators are incentivized to downgrade the evaluation as much as possible. the question remains - Who is evaluating the evaluator?
Let me dive into one aspect of the evaluation so that everyone understands what exactly happens. When we brought the car at 4.5K kms the evaluation report shows each tyre at around 85% (see the screenshot of the report). The selling evaluation report miraculously reports tyres at 30%. This mind you, when the car has been driven only 1000 kms between buying and selling it. I asked curiously to Mr. Syed who was the selling assistant from cars24 of how this could happen and he gave me some mumbo jumbo of tyres can deteriorate by itself even it is not driven and car is standing. It seems they have someone scraping the rubber of the tyres everyday in their mind just for the heck of it. Anyways, I am attaching 2 pictures of the front tyre and back tyre for readers to decide if this looks any bit like 30%. I even asked the Cars24 person who had come to pick the car after the sale the percentage left on the tyres and he also agreed this is definitely higher than 30%.
Another example of how the left hand in cars24 does not talk to the right hand. All details of the car are with cars24 which is visible in their app. It clearly mentions only 1 key was given to us when we brought the car. During the final pickup we were delayed for some time as the team scambled to confirm if there was only 1 key. it seems that the evaluator had mentioned there were 2 keys for the car in his evaluation report. However, it got resolved after I asked the cars24 team to check in the car's data when we brought the car. Small things but just spoils the overall experience.
Just to summarize my transactions here...I paid around 4 Lacs when buying the car. The same car was purchased from me by cars24 for 2.52 Lacs. I spent 27,000 INR in repairs. So you do the math here in terms of the loss within 3 months. I am also pretty sure the same car will be resold at a much higher price again after falsifying the evaluation report mentioning the car to be in immaculate condition and that too a low driven one.
My objective here Mr. Chopra is not to get anything out of you but purely to inform my fellow consumers of the racket that you are running in the garb of a highly sophisticated operation driven by technology and people with corporate responsibility and culture. In the end, you are no better than any standalone used car dealer who tamper/touch up with cars and resell them without any ounce of remorse.
A company built to scam people by fraud evaluation of their cars while buying them and giving them a much lower price than the market value. Here is an account of how I found out of this scam over the last 3 months of interacting as a customer.
CARS24 SCAM
This is an open letter to Mr. Vikram Chopra who is the CEO & Co-founder of Cars24.
"Culture eats strategy for breakfast” is a quote by Peter Drucker that means a company's culture can be so strong that it can override its strategy. But unfortunately, for Cars24 the culture you have created will kill all strategies for you in the future.
